Venice airport to the city centre: boat, bus or water taxi
Ideal for: FamiliesCouplesSoloSeniorsOn a budget

Contents
In short: You reach Venice by water or by road. The bus, the fastest, stops at Piazzale Roma, at the edge of the city; from there you continue by vaporetto or on foot. The slower Alilaguna water bus goes straight into Venice. The water taxi, expensive, drops you as close as possible to your hotel.
Your options
Bus to Piazzale Roma
The ATVO express bus reaches Piazzale Roma in about 20 minutes; the ACTV city bus (line 5) takes a little longer. At Piazzale Roma, cars and buses stop: continue by vaporetto or on foot.
Alilaguna water bus
Alilaguna boats leave from the airport dock (a few minutes’ walk) and serve several stops in Venice. Allow about an hour or more: slow but spectacular, and handy if your hotel is near a stop.
Water taxi
The fastest and most comfortable option, but also the most expensive: it drops you as close as possible to your hotel. Book ahead or take one at the official desk at the dock.
From Treviso airport
Some low-cost airlines land at Treviso, further away: a bus links the airport to Piazzale Roma. Check the timetable, especially in the evening.
Our tips
- Travel light: in Venice you carry your bags over bridges and steps; find the vaporetto stop nearest your hotel in advance.
- Check your arrival airport and terminal: some cities have several, far apart.
- Plan the journey before you leave: offline map and the exact address of your accommodation.
- Have mobile data as soon as you land (eSIM or a suitable plan) to follow your route or call a ride.
- Late arrival, children or bulky luggage: a booked transfer saves waiting and changes.
- Beware of unofficial drivers approaching travellers in the arrivals hall: use the official taxi rank.
