In short: Florence airport is linked to the centre by tram T2 in about 20 minutes, to Santa Maria Novella station and Piazza dell’Unità. Many flights land in Pisa instead: the PisaMover shuttle reaches Pisa station, where a train takes you to Florence.

Your options

Tram T2

Tram T2 leaves right outside the airport (Peretola Aeroporto stop) and reaches the centre in about 20 minutes, with frequent trams. Get off at Alamanni (Santa Maria Novella station) or Unità.

Taxi

Taxis wait outside the terminal. Handy if you’re staying in the pedestrian historic centre, where the tram doesn’t go.

Booked transfer

A driver meets you on arrival, including at Pisa airport, and drops you at your accommodation: the simplest option from Pisa with luggage.

From Pisa airport

The PisaMover, an automated shuttle, links the airport to Pisa Centrale station in about 8 minutes; the train then reaches Florence Santa Maria Novella in about 50 minutes to 1 h 20 depending on the train.

Our tips

  1. Check your arrival airport and terminal: some cities have several, far apart.
  2. Plan the journey before you leave: offline map and the exact address of your accommodation.
  3. Have mobile data as soon as you land (eSIM or a suitable plan) to follow your route or call a ride.
  4. Late arrival, children or bulky luggage: a booked transfer saves waiting and changes.
  5. Beware of unofficial drivers approaching travellers in the arrivals hall: use the official taxi rank.
