Practical info about Byblos

Byblos (Jbeil) lies on the coast, north of Beirut: visit it as a day trip or stay the night to enjoy the harbour in the evening.

What to see in Byblos

  • The archaeological site, a UNESCO World Heritage site: remains spanning several thousand years, from the first houses to Phoenician temples and a Roman theatre;
  • the Crusader castle, with views over the site and the sea;
  • the old souk, its stone lanes and craft shops;
  • St John-Mark Church, built in the Crusader era;
  • the old harbour, its restaurants and sunsets.

Getting there

From Beirut, by car, taxi or minibus (from Charles Helou station). The coastal road is often busy: set off early. Byblos combines well with Batroun, further north, or with Jeita Grotto and Harissa on the way.
