Deshaies is a small fishing village in the north-west of Basse-Terre, on the leeward coast, also known as the filming location of the series Death in Paradise. It is a good base for beaches, diving and the rainforest.
What to see in and around Deshaies
- Grande Anse beach, long and lined with palm trees;
- the Deshaies Botanical Garden, above the village;
- the Cousteau Reserve, around the Pigeon Islands, for snorkelling and diving;
- Guadeloupe National Park, with its trails and waterfalls;

Getting to Deshaies
Allow more than an hour by road from Pointe-à-Pitre airport, depending on traffic. A car is essential to explore Basse-Terre.
