Practical info about Luxor

Luxor is visited in two parts, on either side of the Nile, linked by boat and by road. Set off early in the morning to avoid the heat, especially for the Valley of the Kings.

Luxor is also the start or end point of many Nile cruises to Aswan. Check opening hours and prices on the official websites before your visit.

The essentials at a glance

East Bank: Karnak and Luxor Temple (superb when lit up in the evening). West Bank: the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut’s Temple and the Colossi of Memnon. Many travellers board a Nile cruise to Aswan in Luxor. All our tips in Travel in Egypt.
