Contents

In short: Constantine, the “city of bridges”, sits on a rock above the Rhummel gorges. Cross the Sidi M’Cid bridge, glide over the gorges by cable car, visit the Emir Abdelkader Mosque and Ahmed Bey’s palace, then head to the Roman ruins of Djémila.

The Sidi M’Cid bridge

Opened in 1912, this suspension bridge spans the gorges high above the void. At night it is lit up: a sight not to be missed.

The Rhummel gorges

The city is surrounded by these deep gorges, crossed by several bridges. The walks and viewpoints over the gorges are among the most impressive in Algeria.

The Emir Abdelkader Mosque

One of the largest mosques in the country, with its tall minarets. Modest dress required; ask about visiting times.

Ahmed Bey’s palace

In the heart of the old town, this palace with its courtyards and painted decor bears witness to pre-colonial Constantine.

The cable car

It glides over the Rhummel gorges and offers a unique view of the city and its bridges.

Djémila on a day trip

The Roman ruins of Djémila, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are among the best preserved in North Africa.
